It got recorded on 23rd January 1969 at the American studio between 4am to 7am. It took 8 takes to produce the final song and later it was overdubbed by Presley himself that same night. James was in Memphis but he was not in the recording sesssion at that moment. When James heard the track the day after it was recorded, he initially thought it sounded too slow. When he later heard the embellished version, he said that he was blown away.

Moman accused Elvis’ people of stealing the song and Elvis’s people were threatened to stop it . On August 7 again it was again overdubbed in mono and stereo in Las Vegas.

Lyrics

We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?

We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds

So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?

Here we go again
Asking where I’ve been
You can’t see these tears are real
I’m crying

We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds

Oh let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Let’s don’t let a good thing die

When honey, you know
I’ve never lied to you
Mmm yeah, yeah

We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?

Why don’t you know
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why don’t you know
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why don’t you know
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why don’t you know
We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby…
